Through years of dedicated research and development in the field of aerodynamics, we have established that the tire of a wheel plays a crucial role in the wheel’s aerodynamic performance and, consequently, the overall efficiency of the bike-and-rider-system.
In addition to other key properties such as rolling resistance, puncture protection, grip, and durability, another critical factor, the aerodynamic behaviour, needed to be considered in order to develop a tire with optimal performance. The aerodynamic performance of a tire is directly related to its surface structure – the tread pattern.
With the Continental AERO 111, we collaborated with DT Swiss and Continental to develop not just a tire that accounts for aerodynamics but one that provides an aerodynamic advantage for all types of road bike wheels. It is also the world’s first aerodynamic road bike tire.
Recognising that the tire has a significant impact on the overall aerodynamic performance of the rider, it became evident that we had to view the wheel and tire as a holistic system. We call this the Wheel Tire System.

What is a Wheel Tire System (WTS)?
A Wheel Tire System refers to the combination of a wheel and tire that is used on a road, triathlon or TT bike. This includes the rim, spokes, hub, and the tire itself. The choice of wheel and tire size, width, and type can significantly impact the performance and characteristics of a bicycle: Its handling and aerodynamics.
Which tube comes with my wheel tire system?
All disc brake wheels the Wheel Tire System comes with a Continental TPU tube.
All rim brake wheels the Wheel Tire System comes with a Continental race tube.
Which wheels and tires include the Wheel Tire System?
You can choose your Swiss Side wheels and we will install the Wheel Tire System with a Continental AERO 111 (front) and a Continental GP 5000 S TR 28 Tire (rear). The wheel tires system will arrive with pre-mounted tubes and tires at your delivery address.
What are the benefits of a Wheel Tire System?
Besides the aerodynamic optimisation of your bike set up you`ll gain significant time saving at any speed (see graph below).
With the Continental AERO 111 and a Swiss Side 38mm deep rim, it is possible to gain the same benefits as with a Swiss Side 62mm deep rim. The aerodynamic performance of the rim can increase the overall aero-performance by using the Continental AERO 111.

What is special about the tire?
The AERO 111 tire stands out with its distinctive design—48 evenly distributed cavities across its surface, known as vortex generators. These innovative features are key to controlling airflow turbulence over the front wheel, creating a “perfected storm” that significantly reduces drag across the entire wheel-tire system (WTS). We started testing established tire technologies and reimagined the surface structure from the ground up. The result is a tire that not only looks unique but also integrates seamlessly with our Aero & Endurance wheels, delivering measurable performance gains across a variety of conditions.

The AERO 111 is a tire like no other that operates on any wheel in any conditions delivering true quantifiable performance improvements.
The beauty of the AERO 111 tire is that it delivers a speed- independent sailing effect and handling improvement.
This means that the average rider at 30 km/h will benefit the most. We call this the «democratisation of wheel aero performance».

The Wheel Tire System is available for all Swiss Side aerodynamic Road cycling and triathlon wheels.
The wheels will be delivered with pre-installed Continental AERO 111 (front wheel) and Continental GP 5000 (rear wheel) tires.

The Continental AERO 111 is the result of Swiss Side`s aero expertise, Continental's tire know-how, and DT Swiss's wheel competence. We call this a perfected storm, which enhances the aerodynamic performance of any wheel and significantly improves stability and handling in the wind.

Where can I buy the Wheel Tire System?
You can buy the wheel tire system in our Swiss Side online shop. Just select your wheel set of choice and upgrade to the Wheel Tire System by checking the box.
Does the system come with tubes or tubeless?
The Continental tires arrive already pre-installed with a tube.
For all disc brake wheels this comes with a Continental TPU tube.
For all rim brake wheels this comes with a Continental race tube.
Which wheels should I buy?
Depending on your specific requirements for your wheels and the terrain you ride, we offer a variety of wheelsets. All Swiss Side road bike wheelsets are available with the Wheel Tire System. Our gravel wheelsets, however, are not sold with the Wheel Tire System.
