Ultimate speed and handling with the Continental Aero 111 tire!

continental aero 111 first ever aerodynamic cycling tire

Aero Performance at any rim highs and speed

Introducing the Continental AERO 111 tire, the result of a six-year collaboration between DT Swiss, Continental, and Swiss Side. This tire represents a technological evolution of the Continental GP 5000, renowned for its exceptional performance in real-world conditions.

The Performance

The Continental AERO 111 tire is engineered for speed, efficiency, and control. Its race-optimised Black Chili Compound delivers outstanding grip while reducing rolling resistance. Additionally, the Vectran Breaker ensures enhanced puncture protection, making it perfect for demanding race environments.

The first real aero tire is designed with 48 Vortex Generators, strategically positioned to create controlled air turbulence around the rim and tire. This innovative feature significantly improves the aerodynamic performance of the wheel-tire system.

Optimised Aerodynamics with Vortex Generators

The 48 unique vortex generators manage air turbulence to reduce drag and enhance the overall aerodynamics of the wheel-tire system. Thanks to its patented design, the AERO 111 tire optimises performance across all rim heights and performs exceptionally well at low (∼30km/h) and high speeds (∼45km/h).

Improved Steering Stability in Crosswinds

The front wheel steering moment is the force a cyclist feels in the handlebars when crosswinds hit the front wheel. The AERO 111 tire minimises the steering moment to give the rider a better handling of the bike. Through extensive research and testing, we’ve developed a near-linear steering moment curve, reducing sudden changes even at the stall point, where airflow detaches from the wheel. This ensures a stable and confident ride, even in challenging wind conditions.

Maximising the Sailing Effect for speed gains

When wind hits the wheel from the side, wheels produce thrust pushing the bike forward, which is described as the “sailing effect”. The AERO 111 tire enhances this effect, allowing even lower rim profiles to benefit. The laminar airflow stays attached to the rim for longer, reducing aerodynamic drag at any speed, improving overall performance.
