TRUE OR FALSE: Wearing an aero helmet without the visor negates the aero advantage
FALSE. In all of the aero testing we have done to date with athletes in the wind tunnel, we are yet to see a case where removing the visor has a measurable impact on their performance. Also as aerodynamicists, this is unexpected, but the numbers don’t lie and we have repeated this test dozens of times with many athletes as well as with our helmet testing dummy ‘Joachim’.
Our pro tip? Removing the visor is a really good way to increase cooling on a hot day. Overheating can have a huge impact on performance, so if it’s going to be warm out there, leave the visor and wear sunglasses instead.
